Vidic will stay at Old Trafford

Every season there appears to be speculation on the future of Nemanja Vidic and this term it’s no different, with several reports linking him with a move to Juventus. However, despite the constant speculation, Vidic’s agent remains defiant about his client’s future and says that there have been no negotiations with any club.

Over recent months Vidic has really struggled to make an impact in the first team, with a ruptured cruciate knee ligament being the reason why he missed the second half of last season. However, this season hasn’t exactly started fruitfully either and he is already midway through an eight week absence following a knee operation.

Bearing the above in mind, it does seem surprising to see that the player has been linked with moves to other clubs. However, that’s exactly what has happened although his agent, Silvano Martina, has said that the rumours are nonsense. He told itasportpress.it, “Vidic is not playing at this time because he’s had surgery, so he’s only thinking about his recovery and not about the transfer market. Juventus are complete with their non-EU players for this season and it is highly unlikely they will make a bid for Vidic, therefore I can categorically rule out any interest from them. Vidic is already part of a top club and there are no negotiations with Juventus or Barcelona.”

Sir Alex Ferguson will certainly be thankful at the clarification, with United clearly missing Vidic through the course of the season. The Red Devils have been through something of a defensive crisis and while players are finally starting to return to the reckoning, supporters will sit much more comfortably when Vidic is back in the heart of the defence. Unfortunately, it won’t be until November before the Serbian international returns back to action for the club.
