UNITED EYEING ANOTHER WIN AT LEEDS

Manchester United have their eyes fixed on another win ahead of their Premier League trip to take on rivals Leeds United after they returned to winning ways during their last Premier League clash with Brighton and Hove Albion at home. Manchester United were on a three-game winless run before it came to an end with the 2-0 win over 10-man Brighton at the Theatre of Dreams this week. Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes scored in the second half, while Brighton had skipper Lewis Dunk sent off for a professional foul in the same half.

German tactician Ralf Rangnick and his Manchester United players went into the winter break in January with two successive league wins over the London duo of Brentford and West Ham United only for them to go on a winless run after the winter break. Since the 1-0 home win over West Ham United thanks to the stoppage time goal from substitute Marcus Rashford, Manchester United had not won a game in any competition until the Brighton game on Tuesday.

In their first game after the all-important West Ham clash in the race to finish in the Premier League top-four, Manchester United wasted a lot of opportunities and the wastefulness came back to haunt them after they were dumped out of the FA Cup by English Championship side Middlesbrough at the fourth round stage. Boro won 8-7 during the dreaded penalty shootout after 120 minutes ended in a 1-1 draw. The first half strike from Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho was cancelled out by Matt Crooks in the second half.

After the Boro game, Manchester United then played a pair of 1-1 draws in the Premier League. The first of the two 1-1 draws came at the home of Burnley with the second half strike from Jay Rodriguez cancelling out the goal from Paul Pogba in the first half. The second 1-1 draw was at home to Southampton who needed a second half strike from Scottish striker Che Adams to secure one point after England international Sancho had given Manchester United the lead in the first half.
