ROONEY MISSES 4 WEEKS

Wayne Rooney is out for the next four weeks because of “minor” ligament damage.

A club statement said: “We’re pleased to report that Wayne has not suffered a fracture (to his ankle). The scan revealed only minor ligament damage.”

It is not yet known how many games the striker will miss for United. He is expected to miss Saturday’s vital Premier League clash against Chelsea.

Medical experts have suggested a minor ligament tear would keep him out for between three and four weeks, but with the World Cup starting in mid-June he would be back in training before England fly out to South Africa.

The 24-year-old will probably miss next Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final return leg against Bayern Munich, plus at least four of United’s final six league games.
